 Covid-19 has struck the world hard and is wreaking havoc for our health and our world-wide economy. Many of us are now slowly adapting to this new way of life making many businesses and workplaces adjust to the new ‘norm’. With many new trends emerging such as an increase in internet shopping due to many abiding by the ‘stay at home’ rules, and the increase in all e-commerce business’. But what about the building sector? Has this pandemic had any effect on the way people are building and renovating their homes? The simple answer is; yes.

 Expert builders and renovation experts are certainly seeing many new trends emerge in 2020 due to the pandemic. With many previously considered ‘luxuries’ now become a staple in home design.

 Around the world architects and home, designers are noting a big shift from the open plan aspect towards a more traditional design. Including rooms that can be closed off and utilised as other spaces.

The Home Office

 Now more than ever home offices are a major buzz in the building world that has been driven by the need to work from home. With many business’ now considering more flexible work environments, many offices are now witnessing many of their workers opting to work more from the home office. If you are considering adding a home office into your abode it’s important to consider the following;

  • Ample power points are important. Consider direct USB charging and more power points in key working areas.

  • Good lighting is a must. Large windows and ample lights will help create the perfect working environment.

  • Clever storage can allow you to also utilise your office as another area such as a spare room/sleeping area.

  • Ensure the area is decluttered and a productive space that you want to work in.

  • Consider greens and blues that are found in nature to add to your office area – these colours have been proven to create a calming space and decrease stress. Choose a colour scheme that keeps you motivated and inspired.

  • Keep it organised and clean and for work only. Avoid using the area for additional reasons, make it a clear office only space. This helps with your productivity.

  • Get the right equipment. A good supportive chair, footrests, and wrist support is vital for good posture.

  • If your office is in a bad wireless area, consider adding a booster so your online conference calls can go smoothly. Speak to your local provider if you are having issues with internet speed and connectivity.

 Separate Spaces

 These are now on the increase. As Covid-19 has proven, having separate spaces for different reasons is once again becoming popular. From study areas for the kids, and clear play and no-play zones has helped immensely with home-schooling. Many homeowners are now seeing the huge advantages of having separate spaces and rooms you are able to close off.

 Considering having areas that are able to be opened and closed off is now a big drawcard in home design and renovations. It’s important to sit down and discuss exactly how you want the spaces in your home to work and interact with each other. Having a clear plan of how you want this space to function is important.
