Cowan Building takes a look at smart bathrooms and how they can add value and a point of difference to your home.
We’ve all been slowly hit by the integration of smart technology in our homes. Kitchen and home design have certainly felt the tech impact, with smart ovens, fridges, and lighting, to security, device charging points, and heating.
It’s no surprise that the bathroom was sooner or later going to get a smart renovation. As we move into a much more environmentally friendly era, technology is allowing bathrooms to become more hygienic and water-efficient.
Adding a Dash of Smart
There is no mistake that adding tech features in your home is a good way to increase your house value. However, it’s important to remember that technology will need to be updated at some stage and some features may become completely obsolete – cue the 1980s home intercoms systems.
So keeping this in mind, it’s important to also future-proof your home. Go for technology that has been proven to have quality usage and not just a flash-in-the-pan trend.
Adding more technology will also increase your electricity usage, and like all gadgets, they will need to be updated, and also maintained to ensure the best performance. Always speak to the professionals when adding any type of tech into your bathroom space and have a qualified electrician do the job. Some features, like hand-dryers, will need to take into consideration the ventilation and steam in your bathroom.
Some of the more recent trends for bathrooms include:
Smart glass
With just a click of a button, you can turn perfect glass into an opaque surface. Leaving no need for blinds, or curtains. For the modern house, this can add a huge element of style and function. Allowing bathrooms to have full glass flow, while also offering a huge amount of privacy at the click of a button. Perfect for showers, bath surrounds, and ensuite bathrooms.
Hand-dryers for the home
There is a growing range of hand dryers suitable for home use. These are great for cutting down on towel usage and helping boost hygiene in your home. These come in stylish wall units or those integrated into your tapware.
Smart Toilets
These are certainly gaining traction over the past few years. With features such as smart washing and drying (we will leave that up to your imagination), automatic flush, heating, no tanks, automatic lids, nightlights. These flushing wonders also cut down on the use of toilet paper, have very low water consumption, and are space-saving marvels. Plus; being touch-free, they are very hygienic.
Touch-Free Tapware
With many public bathrooms now donning touch-free tapware it was only a matter of time until this bathroom gem was refined for the home. Today there is an impressive and stylish range of sensor taps available. These are wonderful for saving water, and also keeping your bathroom hygienic and clean.
