Cowan Building takes a look at some of the new and interesting appliances for smart homes. From self-cleaning ovens to devices that can command your entire home at the click of a button.

Smart homes are certainly the new catchphrase in the new home build. So how do smart homes work? And how can these additions to your home be of benefit?

Security

Many homeowners are not looking to the future to protect their homes. Having smart security means you can monitor your property from anywhere in the world. Many features include:

·        Live streaming video

·        Motion detection

·        Remote professional monitoring

·        Glass breaking detection

·        Alarms and sirens

This type of all-round security allows homeowners peace-of-mind knowing that their homes are protected from wherever they may be. Cameras can also be wireless with heat motion sensors. Alongside some pretty impressive night vision and audio capabilities.

Most also come with smartphone alerts, meaning you’ll never miss a package delivery again or an alert to allow you to know if your home is at risk of a break-in. There are many new apps that also support a range of services including the ability to answer your doorbell when you are not at home.

 Appliances

Forgot to turn the washing machine on? Or wanting a hot coffee on your arrival home? There are so many options for smart appliances, that the sky is the limit for possible interactions from the click of your smartphone.

Some of the new generation of smart appliances include:

·        Washing machines

·        Coffee makers

·        Robot vacuum cleaners

·        ovens

There are also new clever smart plugs that can allow most appliances to be turned on or off by the click of your phone including; TVs or lamps. This type of technology can ultimately save you money on your electricity bill.

Heating

This is a wonderful development that can help you heat your home more efficiently and cost-effective. Many smart thermostats can allow you to remotely control the heating or cooling of your home. Allowing you to come home to the perfect temperature, no matter what the weather throws.

Some of these devices even remember how you best like your home cooled or heated and will do this automatically and also adjust the temperature depending on how many people are in the room.

So, when the weather gets cold, turn the thermostat up on your way home from work, and pop on a coffee. Genius.

 Other bits and bobs

But it doesn’t stop there. Smart homes can also have some wonderful additions including:

·        keyless entry

·        lighting controls

·        energy management and monitoring

·        Garage door control

·        Water your plants remotely

·        Smoke detector notifications and monitoring

·        Open and close blinds and curtains

With all this technology and monitoring, leaving your home for work or an extended holiday is done with ease. The homes of the future are certainly making their way into the mainstream with top-end efficiency.
