When Janet and Nigel Laing watched the FOR SALE sign appear in the stunning waterfront lot across the road it was all action stations to build their dream home. With uninterrupted views of Raragni Beach front, the piece of land they had always wanted to call home was finally on the market and needing some expertise to allow the residence, they had always envisioned, to be brought to life.

Enter Cowan Building. As experts in the building industry and well-known in the Marlborough for making wishes into reality, owner and expert Builder, Clayton Cowan, got to work to ensure the home Janet and Nigel wanted become a reality. Working beside and respected local Architect Andrew Orchard, Janet was able to see her rough sketches become the blueprint for this incredible project.

With so much magnificent landscape to work with it, the placement of the home and the large windows to take in all of the beautiful views was important to the client. The home also needed to fit in with the stunning surrounds of surf, sun and sand.

The view towards the ocean was the most important thing to me

The dwelling is simply exquisite. Large windows open to a beautifully stained deck that encompasses the breathtaking scenery and view. The contrast use of grey and cedar complements the environmental elements of sand dunes and the roaring oceanfront, while adding beautiful feature-points throughout the inside, and outside, of the home.

From start to finish, Cowan Building ensured that every detail was taken into account to Janet’s detailed spec. Every aspect from the lighting to the tiles has been crafted with the upmost attention to detail. The underfloor heating and clever use of windows throughout the home floods the rooms with light and adds a touch of luxurious modern warmth.

Clayton was a dream to work with, he listened, and we could change things if we wanted too, not like those big companies. He was open to everything we wanted to do; he was just brilliant to work with.

Janet was quick to note that working with Cowan Building was a very peasant experience, and emphasised how important those personal relationships are, when you are building your dream home.

You get the same team coming in and you get that personal attention, I think that’s really important when building a home. The team at Cowan Building were just fun to be around and they got on with the job and Clayton is super easy to approach.

Special design features, like the paua shell strip in the bathrooms, alongside ample storage solutions have provided this home not only with impressive aesthetic qualities but also outstanding functionality.

The combination of good building, and clever design has left Janet and Nigel with a spectacular residence, perfect for entertaining the whole family, or snuggling up during those wonderful winter storms.

It’s amazing, it blows me away to think that we thought about it and now here it is.
