Who doesn’t love a good spruce up of their existing home? With so many of us spending ample time in our homes over the past few years, one thing is for certain…our desire to create the perfect living environment is high on the agenda. So what home trends are set to take centre stage in 2022?
Bringing the Outside In
One thing is for sure – with Covid19 being the focus across the world many of us have been desperate to get outside. With this in mind; it’s no surprise that many interior design trends have seen an increase in bringing the outdoor world inside. Expression through colours, openness, and light has seen a huge surge since 2020.
Many home designers and architects are seeing a demand in increasing the size of windows, opening spaces, and adding a dash of natural colours and materials throughout the home. Large sweeping windows allow for ample light, while also giving an element of space. Floor to ceiling windows certainly provide an element of the outdoors, these are particularly striking if you have a smaller area you want to enhance, a lovely view, or an outside entertaining area. Many of these can be fitted to open seamlessly, this is a wonderful aspect if you have an outdoor kitchen or sitting area – basically allowing the two spaces to become one easily and effortlessly. The clever use of glass windows and doors can increase your home's usable area and make a stunning element to any home.
Natural colours are a must in 2022. From earthy tones and leafy greens, combined with deeper bolder colours are certainly making a statement this year.
In 2020 the trending colours were shades of the morning sky (Dulux Tranquil Dawn) and in 2021 with Brave Gound – an earthy warm tone. Other trending colours in 2021 include the Benjamine Moore range with Aegean Teal. This stunning warm-blue green tone contains beautifully grey accents to bring the outdoors inside in a stylish and complementary way. Soft stone pallets are also in hot demand, and when combined with natural elements around the home -think leather couches and wooden accents – they add a depth of warmth and that all-important ‘comfort’ feel.
Getting Techy in 2022
We all know the importance of technology in our homes. But apart from the need for faster WIFI and internet what other tech is trending in 2022? It’s all about functional spaces and adding a dash of tech to any area.
The humble kitchen island bench has been radically transformed since 2020. No longer is it just a place to pull up a puce, enjoy a hot beverage or add that all-important extra prep space. Today the kitchen bench is set to quickly transform from a kitchen requirement to an office in the blink of an eye. Cleverly concealed charging points are a big hit on island benches as too extra power sockets – don’t forget your USB points and kiss those plugs goodbye. Think cleverly hidden draws (for all your working requirements) that will allow you to remove the office clutter and return the space into a kitchen delight quickly and efficiently.

Since 2020 the need for office spaces also increased. Don’t have the space or an entire room to dedicate to your office area? You’ll be surprised with a little creative thinking you can turn an unused corner or hallway into a well-designed and operational office area.
Bathrooms are also getting a hit of tech in 2022. Consider no mist mirrors, heated floors, automatic taps, heated towel rails, integrated speakers, and high-tech toilets.
The kitchen is also no stranger to tech innovations. From smart appliances to app-controlled lighting options. You can spruce up your kitchen and bring it into the future. Some splashbacks are also getting a hit of the digital age, with high-end products boasting a digital splashback, allowing the changes in colour and design trends to be endless. Don’t be shocked to find that our kitchens get a voice-controlled option in the years to come! Imagine telling the oven to turn on, while you peacefully sit sipping your coffee! Overhead projection is also becoming a big thing in kitchens. No more struggling with recipes as you cook - the options are endless.
